Guard edged out by Dallas Christian, 50-47

Brook Hill pushed Dallas Christian to the limit before relenting in a 50-47 loss Tuesday in a non-district varsity boys game.

The Guard were paced offensively by Reid Hill’s 15 points with Parker Galbraith chipping in nine points in the loss.

“I was really proud of how hard the boys played,” Guard coach Jacob Agnew said. “With only a few days in the gym (after football ended) they fought and had a ton of chances to win the game against a really good Dallas Christian team.

“There is no doubt that we will continue to work and improve and make a lot of noise this season.”

The Guard trailed by one point, 23-22, at halftime and it was still a one possession deficit, 39-37, for Brook Hill entering the fourth quarter.

Brook Hill and Dallas Christian took turns grabbing control in the final frame until a late surge by the hosts was enough to hold off the Guard in a three-point loss.

Next up for the Guard is the annual Tommy Young Classic with all of the games played at Brook Hill’s Herrington Gymnasium.

Brook Hill (1-4) will face Woodlands Christian in its classic opener at 8 p.m. Thursday. Brook Hill will square off with West Rusk at 8 p.m. Friday before closing out the three-day event with a matchup against city rival Bullard at 3 p.m. Saturday.
