Making a Difference

From the desk of Wally Dawkins, Athletic Director:

“Teams who do the little things right are the teams who win championships”

I have always believed in the above quote. Regardless of talent, ability, athleticism…it’s the teams who pay attention to detail, who practice repetitiously the skills and techniques of their trade, and who focus on doing the little things right are the teams who win championships. At Brook Hill, we have coaches who, as a part of our staff, do the little things right. In fact, we have several coaches who pay attention to detail, and therefore, are making a difference in the lives of the student athletes they coach and mentor to.

Today I want to introduce you to three of these coaches who are making a BIG difference.

Kostin Wallace – Kostin Wallace began working as a part of Brook Hill Athletics last spring when serving as an intern in our Track & Field program. As a graduate of Whitehouse High School and currently attending Tyler Junior College, Kostin aspires to be a teacher/coach when he finishes college. Kostin has definitely impacted our kids with his soft spoken yet firm coaching style, and it is winning the hearts and minds of our Brook Hill student athletes. Kostin is currently working at BH now as an assistant Coach in football and track and has had a huge impact on our kids while encouraging hard work, supreme effort, and the importance of doing the little things right. Kostin is pulling double duty these days coaching Middle School and Varsity Football. We are very pleased to have Kostin as a part of our staff, and the role model he is to our male students.

Becky Knight – Becky Knight is an amazing young woman. She is super organized, exhibits boundless energy, and plays a critical role in the daily operation of Brook Hill Athletics.  Becky was a great addition to our staff almost three years ago, and while being in charge of all of our marketing and concessions sales, she has made a huge impact on the young women she mentors on a daily basis as a coach and role model. A graduate of Auburn University and a former employee of Pine Cove, Becky is helping our Lady Guard Coaches and athletes develop a new sense of pride in their work ethic, personal accountability, and dedication to the girls’ sports programs at Brook Hill. Becky plays a role in almost every aspect of the Athletic department including policy and decision making, as well as planning out future strategies and programs. Becky Knight pays attention to details and the results speak for themselves.

Tiffany Hubbard – Tiffany became our Cheer Coach 5 years ago, and immediately had a great impact on the Cheer program, as well as the young ladies who are a part of it. Tiffany is one of the most selfless people I have ever known, always willing to help while going above and beyond her job description to make Brook Hill great. As a Math Teacher, Coach Hubbard has the ability to impact many of our student athletes on the court and off. If you will take a second look, our Cheer Teams have a crisp and clean look, are well drilled in their techniques and performance, and have the reputation of being one of the best squads in East Texas. Demanding that our Cheerleaders exhibit Christ-like character, Tiffany has elevated our girls to not only be the leaders of cheers at games, she expects them to be leaders on campus. We are fortunate to have Tiffany Hubbard as our Cheer Coach.

These coaches are just three of the twenty Christian men and women who work full time at Brook Hill on a daily basis with our student athletes in an effort to give them every opportunity to exceed athletically and academically while encouraging Christ-like character.

I am sure that we are all grateful that the Brook Hill Athletic Department employs coaches who are not short sighted and who get the big picture as to what life, athletics, and spirituality should look like.

So the next time you are around the Herrington Stadium/Young Field, Schwab Field & Training Center, or any Brook Hill Athletic venue…Go Hug A Coach!

And that’s another reason to be “ALL ORANGE…All The Time.”
