A Great New Year’s Resolution

From the desk of Rod Fletcher, Headmaster:

As we head into a new year, my encouragement to the Middle and Upper School students in chapel this week was to “not just let life happen to you.”  I reminded them that they are a group of young people who have been given incredible opportunities and it is their responsibility to make the most of it.

In order to maximize their opportunities, I challenged students to read great books, spend time with great people, attend great events, visit great places, and create great memories.  This doesn’t just happen, though. It takes discipline and resolve to follow through, even when it hurts.

I also challenged students to read the greatest book of all: The Bible.  I encouraged them to make a resolution to read it regularly and showed them the following video of Ben Stuart, Executive Director for Breakaway Bible Study on the campus of Texas A&M University.

In the video, Ben points out that, “what you think about is what you care about, and what you care about you chase.” My prayer for our students at Brook Hill is that they will chase the right things, and that as a school we will always encourage them to do so!
