In 1980, Duke University’s Talent Identification Program (TIP) committed to identifying talented students and to providing model programs and services to support the development of their optimal educational potential.  TIP is dedicated to being the national leader in offering innovative, high quality programs and services for academically talented children and youth and their parents, with the goals of better understanding and serving America’s most academically talented students.

The search is based on standardized test scores achieved while attending 5th or 6th grade.  Once identified, a student is invited to complete either the SAT I: Reasoning Test or the ACT Assessment college entrance examination.  TIP will provide comparative information concerning the student’s academic abilities and resources for unique educational opportunities.
