Stay the Course and Be Patient

From the desk of Rod Fletcher, Headmaster:

This morning I watched the Brook Hill Lady Guard Basketball Team beat T. K. Gorman in the first round of the District tournament.  It was great – winning is always great.  But what was particularly impressive in this game was the way they won.

At the end of the first half Brook Hill was down by thirteen points.  Thirteen is a pretty big deficit in girls’ basketball.  But instead of letting up, giving in and admitting defeat, the Lady Guard methodically and systematically caught up, took the lead, and won the game.

They did it by sticking to the game plan.

In the first half, they played well but the shots just did not fall.  Instead of panicking and changing everything up in the second half, I watched the team just calmly stick to the plan.  The shots started to fall, the defense was effective, and they won the game.

As I watched I thought, “what a great life lesson.”  When you are doing the right thing, and “the shots just don’t fall,” don’t start doing the wrong thing just to try and make things work.  The right thing is always the right thing – stay the course and be patient.

Here is a video of the last seconds from the game:
