Chemistry students learn about acids and bases

Students in Ms. Adams’s chemistry class spent time in the lab this week learning about acids and bases. They used four different acid-base indicators, conductivity meters, and reactions with metals to study the properties of acids and bases and neutralization. Many were amazed at the rainbow of colors produced by certain indicators, and they were fascinated to learn that the soap we use to wash our hands after lab is a base, specially formulated to safely neutralize any acid they might have accidentally contacted while carrying out their procedure.
