FORNEY — Brook Hill’s Chasca Ortega finished the Varsity Boys 5K course in a time of 18 minutes and 44 seconds to deliver a Top 10 performance at the TAPPS District 2-4A cross country meet held Thursday at Dallas Shelton School.

Ortega’s efforts helped the Guard finish sixth as a team. He was followed by teammates Caleb Collins (29th, 21:27), Winslow Conneen (34th, 21:51), Mac Rose (37th, 23:22) and Justin Powell (38th, 25:27).

The Brook Hill Varsity Girls were one runner short to post a team score, but that did not prevent Julia Troxell from leading the line for the Lady Guard runners in 23rd place, posting a time in the 2K of 15 minutes and 50 seconds. She was followed by teammates Valerie Allen (25th, 16:13), Natali Hall (27th, 16:23), Li Ming Conneen (39th, 19:23).

Brook Hill’s middle school boys and girls runners also competed at district.

The girls, led by Kayla Dahn’s 10th place finish, posted a Top 5 team finish. Brook Hill Middle School girls were 4th with Olivia Kim (20th, 18:08), Emily Livesay (22nd, 18:20), Katelynn Henics (24th, 18:22), Ruby Timmons (27th, 19:20), Catherine Kimball (29th, 20:02), Emy Rose (31st, 20:22) and Angel Basile (53rd, 24:49) all crossing the line for the Lady Guard.

Brook Hill middle school boys Joshua Baker and Jack Jenkins as individuals because BH did not have enough racers to complete a team score. Baker finished the 2K course in a time of 15 minutes and 47 seconds with Jenkins crossing the line of 18 minutes and 16 seconds.

“Overall, I was very pleased,” Guard cross country coach Kyle Ford said. “We again had a lot of personal best run times. God is good. This is a great platform to build off in the future.”
