Upper School students attend Texas Supreme Court

On Thursday, 10 students along with Christie Adams traveled to LeTourneau University to observe the Texas Supreme Court hearing oral arguments. The Court heard two cases before a crowd of students, attorneys and judges. One dealt with possible undue influence over a woman while she amended a trust to exclude some beneficiaries, and the second revolved around the issue of the employee status of a medical resident and her potential liability in a medical malpractice claim. The students paid close attention to the attorneys’ arguments and the questions posed by the justices, and they all had definite opinions about which party won their argument in each case. After a lunch on the grounds of LeTourneau, the group took a guided tour of the university, asked many questions of the law school representatives present at the legal career fair and attended break-out sessions about God and the Courts or law as a career. The students had the pleasure of meeting Chief Justice Josh Morriss and Justice Bailey Moseley of the Texarkana Court of Appeals, Retired Justice Sam Griffith of the Tyler Court of Appeals, Judge Bill Miller of the Fifth District Court of Texas in Bowie and Cass Counties, and Judge Jeff Addison of the County Court at Law of Bowie County, Texas.
