From the desk of Dr. Ward:

On Wednesday, January 8, seven college students and one college graduate spoke with the senior class of 2014 about transitions to college. The panel was made up of former Brook Hill students.

Both Dr. Ward and the seniors asked the panel questions, including:

  • What were your biggest surprises when you went to college?
  • How have you changed since leaving Brook Hill?
  • What advice do you have for making genuine friends at college?
  • What advice do you have about having a roommate?
  • What advice do you have about selecting classes?

The panel provided a variety of observations and advice, including comments about the new freedoms at college that will require additional self-motivation from freshmen students, the variety of social and academic opportunities, and the importance of being intentional for a fulfilling social life.

Former B. H. students Michelle Balfay, Kate Googins, Timber Garner, Kyle Taylor, Nic Cool, Kirby Vinson, Ashley McClelland, and Ed Link composed the panel.

The alumni panel is an annual tradition that is part of Dr. Ward’s “Senior Transitions” class that runs concurrently with senior Bible. Dr. Ward sets aside several days during the spring semester to address issues that can be struggles for college freshmen. The senior transitions program is just one more example of how Brook Hill works to provide a holistic college-preparatory program that prepares students emotionally and socially as well as intellectually.
