Baseball: Guard fall short against Tyler All Saints, 5-2

Miguel Vega went 2 for 3 with two singles and two RBIs, but it was not enough in an eventual 5-2 loss for the Guard varsity against Tyler All Saints. The same two teams will play again Friday at home.

Tyler Overbeek, Josh Jenkins and Campbell Fletcher registered Brook Hill’s other three hits in a frustrating night offensively for the Guard. Reid Hill scored both of Brook Hill’s runs.

On the mound, Vega started the game and went 1 and 2/3 innings while allowing three earned runs on three hits with three walks. Logan Langford relieved him in the second and allowed two earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts. Overbeek pitched the final two outs of the seventh inning.

Brook Hill jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Hill walked to lead off the game and went to second on a single from Jenkins. Hill eventually went to third on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI single from Vega.

The Guard trailed 3-1 in the third when Brook Hill scratched out a run to make it 3-2. Hill reached on an error to lead off and went to second when Seth Moss was hit by a pitch. Vega eventually followed with a one-out single to left that scored Hill, but the Guard couldn’t cash in on any more runs after that.

The loss dropped Brook Hill to 5-2 in TAPPS Division II District 3 and into a tie with Tyler All Saints. A win for the Guard Friday will push BH back into first.
