Baseball: Guard split final two games at Carlisle Tournament

Brook Hill bounced back from a 5-0 loss to Frankston on Friday to defeat Kilgore JV 8-2 Saturday at the Carlisle Tournament.

The Guard began the event Thursday with a runaway 13-3 win over Hawkins, but BH’s bats went cold against Frankston. Logan Fitzgerald registered the Guard’s lone hit with Seth Moss, Reid Hill and Brooks Parham reaching on walks.

Miguel Vega took the loss on the mound despite only one of his three runs given up being earned as Frankston took advantage of Brook Hill errors. He also had six strikeouts. Reid Hill and Jake Shaffer provided relief work.

On Saturday against Kilgore JV, the Guard scored runs in every inning of an 8-2 victory.

Tyler Overbeek doubled twice, Campbell Fletcher launched a solo homer and Brooks Parham drove in two runs for the Guard in the win, which evened their overall record at 3-3.

Brook Hill started things off strong in the first inning with Logan Fitzgerald reaching on a one-out walk, stealing second and scoring on an RBI single from Logan Langford.

Fletcher’s home run to left field to lead off the second inning made it 2-0 with Brooks Parham later following with an RBI single to score Overbeek.

The Guard increase their advantage to 4-0 in the third on a bases-loaded walk by Parham which scored Langford.

Brook Hill made it 5-0 in the fourth when Langford raced home on a dropped third strike.

In the fifth, Parham was at it again, this time reaching on an error, which scored Reid Hill. He later scored on a sacrifice fly from Fitzgerald for a 7-0 lead.

The Guard added one more run to their tally in the sixth with Hill driving in Overbeek with a single.

Logan Langford won the game on the mound for BH, allowing no runs on two hits with six strikeouts in five innings. Overbeek and Mary Foster provided relief pitching for the Guard in the sixth.
