Basketball: Guard win bi-district playoff at Dallas Christian, 56-52

GARLAND — Brook Hill is moving on in the playoffs!

Led by 20 points from Reid Hill, the Guard went on the road Friday and knocked off Dallas Christian 56-52. This was a rematch of an earlier non-district game that DC won by three points.

This time with much more at stake, Brook Hill (11-15) emerged victorious and advance to the second round where the Guard will face rival Tyler All Saints. That game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at All Saints School.

Reid Hill’s six 3-pointers paved the way for Jacob Yeager to be the game clincher. Yeager finished with six points, and they were big as he converted free-throws in the fourth quarter to secure Brook Hill’s victory.

“The way the boys came out geared up and ready to play was awesome,” Guard coach Jacob Agnew said. “They worked so hard and really deserved the win.”

Brook Hill outscored Dallas Christian 18-1 in the second quarter to lead 29-14 at halftime. After the two teams matched one another in the third quarter, DC tried to attempted a big-time comeback in fourth. The home side got close, but Yeagar’s free throws made sure the Guard returned to East Texas with a playoff victory.

“Reid Hill was on fire and everyone seemed to feed off him, but we won the game on the defensive end and with some clutch free throws by Jacob Yeager.”

Alec Kitt also finished in double figures for Brook Hill as the Guard now turn their attention Tuesday to All Saints, a team the Guard have nearly beaten twice and now look to break through with a win against when it matters most.
