BH Seniors Selected to Serve on Student Board of Directors for Texas Bank & Trust

Texas Bank & Trust(TA)-1

We are pleased to announce the selection of six seniors from The Brook Hill School to serve on the 2014-2015 Student Board of Directors for Texas Bank and Trust.

The TB&T Student Board is a prestigious program recognizing outstanding high school seniors in the community.

Seniors Hope Cooper, Favour Diokpo, Avery Langemeier, Erica Luong, Janet Nwachukwu, and Elim Oluwole will join with 54 other seniors from All Saints Episcopal, Grace Community, Robert E Lee, John Tyler, and Bishop Thomas K. Gordon Regional Catholic High Schools to make up the sixth senior class to participate in the TB&T program in Tyler.

The 2014-2015 Student Board members will be introduced to the TB&T bank staff in an Orientation Reception, to be held at 7 pm, Tuesday, August 26 in the Main lobby of the bank’s West Grande Branch location. Parents and school administrators are invited to attend.

As in years passed, the Student Board program will be designed to introduce students to banking and money management at a critical point in their lives, and provide them with the essential economic building blocks to earning, spending, saving, and investing money. The students will be challenged this year to test their innovation and business development skills with a new program, entitled Investment Quest.  As aspiring entrepreneurs, the student board members will have eight months to conceptualize a product, service, or business they could potentially bring to market.

Texas Bank and Trust established the Student Board – its first and most enduring financial literacy program – in 1978.

Students were selected based on their grade point average, extra-curricular activities, and afterschool work activities. Students must submit an essay with their application as well as two letters of recommendation from either a faculty member or administrator to be considered for the program. Students accepted into the 2014 Student Board program were notified in late May.

Since its inception, the Student Board has introduced more than 1,800 high school seniors to banking and money management.
