Brook Hill Football: Here’s where things stand entering district play

BHvsCali(TA)-3 BHvsCali(TA)-1

Brook Hill football took a much-deserved week off this week because a lot has happened thus far:

The Guard opened the season as the signature game of the Tyler Ford/Brook Hill American Warriors Bowl Weekend against St. Bernard’s Catholic from Eureka, California. It was also the debut of senior quarterback McCray Fletcher, who finished with 397 yards and 3 TDs in a heartbreaking 43-40 loss.

Next up on the schedule was a road test against perennial power Tenaha. Brook Hill junior running back Jordon McGowen only had 15 yards rushing, but he made them count, scoring two touchdowns — including the game-winning score in the final minute — as the Guard defeated Tenaha 33-32.

Another perennial power, Alto, was next up. McCray Fletcher passed for 236 yards and 1 TD and Jordon McGowen once again rushed for 2 TDs, but it was not enough in a 33-20 loss.

Brook Hill (1-2) opens TAPPS Division II District 2 play on Friday, Sept. 25 against Dallas Christian. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. at Herrington Stadium.

The Guard finished as district champions a year ago and here’s the rest of the district after non-district play has concluded:

Tyler Bishop Gorman (3-0)

Tyler Grace Community (3-0)

Frisco Legacy Christian Academy (2-0)

Dallas Christian (2-1)

Tyler All Saints (2-1)

Carrolton Prince of Peace (2-1)

Dallas Shelton (0-3)
