Exploring Oobleck

Is it a solid or is it a liquid?  8th graders were exploring oobleck. It  is a type of non-Newtonian fluid which is  strange and perplexing.  When a force is applied, the viscosity increases and any force you exert on it will make the fluid behave more like a solid than a liquid.  Students poked it and tried to pick it up to explore the substance.  Students were amazed by the behavior of oobleck, and many said they couldn’t wait to  make it again at home.  Beware moms of messy kitchens to come.
