Guard 8th all over Alto before Mother Nature intervenes

It was a great start for Brook Hill’s 8th grade football team. The Guard produced 18 points in the first quarter while the defense delivered a shutout.

Then the rains came and never stopped, forcing the game to be stopped for an 18-0 final score.

It took two plays for Brook Hill quarterback Mason Kelley to get the Guard on the board. He dropped back and lofted a perfect pass to David Roberts for a 60-yard touchdown.

Then Brook Hill’s defense got into the act. Alto fumbled on its second offensive play with Colby Davis scooping up the loose ball and rumbling 40 yards the other way for a second Guard touchdown.

Brook Hill stopped Alto’s defense again with the offense quickly taking advantage of possession to tack on another score before the end of the quarter. Roberts and Kelley hooked up again, this time on a 45-yard screen pass for a touchdown. As Roberts snagged the pass and turned upfield, he received a great block from Jake Shaffer to spring him loose down the sideline toward pay-dirt.

The game was called after that because of weather.
