Guard 8th Grade falls short to Shelton, 26-12

Turnovers hurt the Brook Hill 8th grade team as the Guard were edged out 26-12 by Dallas Shelton on Thursday.

Dallas Shelton scored first to put the Guard behind 8-0, but Brook Hill did not need long to answer with Mason Kelley launching a 78-yard touchdown strike to David Roberts.

The 2-point try failed, leaving the score, 8-6.

Brook Hill looked to be moments away from taking the lead just before halftime, driving deep into Shelton territory before a turnover flipped everything around.

Shelton took advantage to score just before the half and led 14-6 at the break.

Brook Hill kept shooting itself in the foot in the second half. Despite strong defensive efforts from Kamron Ayria, Seth Leon, Jake Shaffer and Gavin Welling, the Guard could not cut into their deficit because of three more turnovers.

Those helped Dallas Shelton tack on two more touchdowns and make the deficit, 26-6.

Brook Hill sliced it down further, 26-12, on a 9-yarrd touchdown run by Gavin Welling.

The Guard tried to get the ball back with an onside kick, but Shelton recovered to run out the clock.
