Guard begin Wagstaff Tournament with victory over Troup

TYLER — Colton Adams scored 20 points as part of four Brook Hill Guard players in double figures en route to a comfortable 89-39 win over Troup Tuesday at the Floyd Wagstaff Holiday Classic at Tyler Junior College.

The win upped the Guard’s overall record to 9-7 in preparation for a clash against Class 5A Lindale on Wednesday.

“We started out a little sloppy but really picked it up and I was proud of the guys for coming out and doing what they needed to do,” Guard coach Jacob Agnew said. “They shared the ball, got up and down the floor and played hard defense.

“Also, anytime you have five different guys hit threes that’s nice. We’ll put this one in the bag and get ready for Lindale.”

Agnew also pointed out the unselfishness of Adams and Reid Hill with both players finishing with six assists.

The game was never close with Brook Hill racing out to a 22-13 lead at the of the first period. The Guard led 44-20 at halftime and kept increasing their advantage in the second half.

Along with Adams, other double-figure scorers for Brook Hill included Alec Kitt (16), McCray Fletcher (13) and Ryan Cox (15).
