Coach Jacob Agnew wanted his Brook Hill Guard to go into the TAPPS 2-4A district tournament with some momentum. His team responded with a 10-point victory over Tyler Grace Community Tuesday on Senior Night at Herrington Gym.

Before the game began, Guard seniors Colton Adams, Ryan Cox, Mason Cudd, Andrew Edwards, McCray Fletcher and Bryant Robinson were honored.

Adams made sure his final home game at Brook Hill would be a victorious one, scoring 13 points to lead the Guard in a 43-33 win.

Fletcher scored two points with Cox finishing with six points and Robinson chipping in five points.

Brook Hill held Grace scoreless in the first period to lead 8-0. The onslaught continued in the second period with the Guard outscoring the visiting Cougars 16-9 to lead 24-9 at halftime.

Grace provided more resistance in the third period and was able to slide Brook Hill’s lead to 11 points, 33-22. The Guard maintain the momentum in the final frame to finish off a Senior Night win.

“We did exactly what we needed to do. We came out intense and completely shut them out in the first quarter,” Coach Agnew said of the Guard’s success. “We got a little out of rhythm in the third quarter and allowed them to get back in the game, but in the fourth quarter we (retook control) and came away with a double-digit victory.

“Our seniors really led tonight on Senior Night. I am really proud of what they have accomplished here at Brook Hill.”

The win gives Brook Hill an overall 14-13 record and 3-5 mark in TAPPS 2-4A.

The Guard open the district tournament at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Frisco Legacy Christian. A win would move  Brook Hill into the semifinals against either Grace or Dallas Christian.

The Guard were on the wrong end of a four-point loss last month against Legacy Christian at home. Brook Hill pulled to within a point in the closing seconds, but could not complete the rally in a 65-61 loss.

A win for Brook Hill in Tuesday’s rematch guarantees the Guard a spot in the TAPPS 4A playoffs.
