Guard come up short at Gorman, 59-54

TYLER — Brook Hill was in control for the first two quarters of its clash Friday at Tyler Bishop T.K. Gorman, but the Guard were undone in the second half of an eventual 59-54 loss at Haddad Gymnasium.

“I was really proud of how hard we played, especially in the first half, but we just had a bad third quarter and put ourselves in a bit of a hole,” Guard coach Jacob Agnew said. “We just couldn’t ever (dig) ourselves out of it.”

Ryan Cox scored 14 points to lead the Guard with Alec Kitt also finishing in double figures with 13. Brook Hill also made six 3-pointers.

TKG had even more success from beyond the arc, connecting on 10 shots from downtown.

Guard coach Jacob Agnew said many of TKG’s treys came in the second half.

“You have to give Gorman a lot of credit. They shot lights out and we missed some big ones down the stretch,” Agnew said. “We’ll try to fix our mistakes and get ready for Frisco Legacy.”

The loss dropped Brook Hill to 13-11 and 2-3 in TAPPS District 2-4A. The Guard will play host to Frisco Legacy Christian on Tuesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Herrington Gymnasium.
