Guard comeback efforts not enough in loss at Bishop Gorman

TYLER — The Guard have won several games this season with second-half comebacks, but some deficits are too much even for Brook Hill to overcome.

Brook Hill scored 24 points in the third and fourth quarters, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a 43-8 deficit at halftime in an eventual 63-32 loss Friday at Bishop Gorman’s McCallum Stadium.

It was Brook Hill’s second loss in a row after a 5-0 start and it dropped the Guard to 1-2 in TAPPS Division II District 2.

Receiver Alec Kitt, filling in for injured starter Hood Taylor who missed his second game, played quarterback for Brook Hill and completed 14 of 23 passes for 195 yards and 2 touchdowns with one interception.

Campbell Fletcher led the Guard with seven catches for 82 yards with Parker Galbraith hauling in four catches for 91 yards and a touchdown.

Brook Hill spotted the home side a 43-0 lead before Brooks Parham got the Guard on the scoreboard late in the half on a 3-yard touchdown run. The two-point pass from Fletcher to Kitt made the score 43-8 at the break.

The Guard found pay-dirt first in the second half when Kitt connected with Galbraith for a 15-yard touchdown. The two-point conversion failed.

The teams traded touchdowns in the second half with Brook Hill’s Jermiah McGowen scoring on a 3-yard run, Carson Ezell catching  a 3-yard TD pass from Kitt and Kitt scoring on a 2-yard run.

Brook Hill is idle this week and will look to end a two-game skid at home on Oct. against first-place Dallas Christian.
