Brook Hill quarterback Hood Taylor passed for 305 yards and a touchdown, but it was not enough in a 56-20 loss to Tyler Grace Community on Friday.

The Guard had already sewn up the fourth and final playoff spot from TAPPS Division II District 2 before the game kicked off. Brook Hill (6-4) will open the playoffs on the road at Midland Christian (6-4) on Saturday afternoon.

Against Grace on Friday, the Guard spotted the opposition a 14-0 lead before the defense got Brook Hill on the scoreboard. Joseph Ardi forced a fumble and Chidiebere Nechi scooped up the loose football and raced 65 yards the other way for a touchdown to make it 14-6.

The Guard offense was held scoreless in the second quarter to trail 28-6 at halftime.

Brook Hill came out of the locker room in the second half with a purpose and it showed with Taylor leading the Guard down the field for a touchdown. Taylor eventually capped the drive with a 1-yard scoring run followed by an extra point from Jordan Wyatt to make the score 28-13.

Brook Hill added a second touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 10-yard strike from Taylor to Garrett Davis. Wyatt was good on the PAT.

Parker Galbraith led Brook Hill’s receivers with seven catches for 114 yards. Alec Kitt caught six passes for 63 yards and Davis had three catches for 58, including the touchdown.

On the ground, Jermiah McGowen led the way with 47 yards on seven carries. Brooks Parham added 43 on four attempts.

Nechi was Brook Hill’s leading tackler with nine stops. Campbell Fletcher and Parham each had eight tackles with John Dixon delivering seven stops in the loss.
