Guard jump on Legacy Christian early on way to 17-6 win

The Guard may have been coming off a two-week break, but their offense showed no rust signs of rust pounding out 17 runs on 17 hits to defeat Frisco Legacy Christian 17-6 on Tuesday in their TAPPS District 2-4A baseball opener at Schwab Field.

Parker Clark led the way with four hits and three RBIs and was one of six Brook Hill players to finish with two hits or more in the win. McCray Fletcher (2 for 3), Chase Moore (3 for 3), Seth Brasher (3 for 4) Josh Jenkins (2 for 3) and Logan Langford (2 for 4) also got into the multi-hit act for the Guard.

Moore and Jenkins also drove in three runs for Brook Hill with Moore, Fletcher and Seth Brasher scoring three runs apiece.

All of this run support made things comfortable for starting pitcher Ryan Cox, who allowed one earned run on two hits with two strikeouts to get the victory. Logan Langford pitched an inning as well to finish Legacy Christian off in the fifth.

The game was called after the Legacy Christian’s at-bat in the fifth inning due to the 10-run rule. The win raises Brook Hill’s record to 7-4 and gives the Guard a 1-0 start to district.

Brook Hill did not waste time, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first to take control of the contest, loading the bases on walks to Fletcher and Moore on an infield single by Clark.

Tyler Overbeek then drove in the first run of the game with a bases-loaded walk to score Fletcher. Brasher followed with an RBI single and Jenkins delivered a two-run single as part of a five-run inning.

Brook Hill tacked on three more runs in the third inning, highlighted by an RBI triple from Clark to lead 8-1.

Legacy Christian sliced the lead to 8-3 before the Guard erupted for nine runs in the fourth inning.

The Guard and Legacy Christian meet again on Thursday in the second half of their home-and-home series in Frisco.
