Guard keep marching, defeat Dallas Triple A, 31-28

DALLAS — Brook Hill is 3-0 after defeating Dallas Triple A Academy 31-28 on Friday.

The Guard are one of two teams unbeaten in TAPPS Division II District 2, after three non-district games. The other is Carrollton Prince of Peace.

Brook Hill left it late, using a 1-yard touchdown run by junior Jermiah McGowen with 31 seconds on the clock. McGowen finished with 23 carries for 129 yards and three touchdowns with junior quarterback Hood Taylor also rushing for a touchdown, accounting for 189 yards (130 pass/59 rush).

Defensively, Carson Ezell was everywhere for the Guard. The sophomore finished with 12 tackles, two of those for loss, and also forced a fumble. Senior Brooks Parham rushed for 83 yards to go along with 12 tackles on defense. Senior Chidiebere Nechi also had 12 stops for the Guard.

Senior Jordon McGowen helped keep Dallas Triple A off the board in the first quarter with an interception. Another turnover forced by Brook Hill helped the Guard take a 3-0 lead. Senior Alec Kitt recovered a fumble and it led to sophomore Caleb Collins connecting from 26 yards out.

A Brook Hill turnover gave AAA a chance to take the lead and home side did just that with a short touchdown run.

The Guard were quickly back on top with Jermiah McGowen doing the honors, scoring his first of three touchdowns on a 5-yard run. Jermiah McGown also ran in the two-point conversion to put the Guard ahead 11-7.

The home side, AAA, scored just before the break to leave Brook Hill trailing 14-11 at halftime.

Brook Hill went to work in the third quarter with two unanswered touchdown drives. The first was capped by a 9-yard run from Taylor and the second a 1-yard run by Jermiah McGowen. Collin’s PATs on both meant the Guard were in front 25-14 with one quarter remaining.

That lead disappeared with AAA driving for one score and using a long pass for another.

When Brook Hill took possession back late in the fourth quarter, the Guard trailed 28-25.

Using runs from Parham, Jermiah McGowen and Taylor, the Guard delivered a game-winning drive. Jermiah McGowen’s 1-yard scoring blast was enough for a 3-point win.
