TYLER — Brook Hill trailed 2-0 through the first three innings before taking over with three runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and four in the seventh to run away from Tyler Grace Community 9-2 on Tuesday.

The win keeps the Guard (12-5) tied for first place in TAPPS District 2-4A at 6-1.

Mason Smith struck out seven in a complete-game performance, allowing two earned runs on six hits.

Josh Jenkins went 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs with Parker Clark going 2 for 3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. McCray Fletcher and Chase Moore also scored twice for the Guard in the win.

The Guard trailed 3-0 when their bats woke up in the top of the fourth inning. It began with Chase Moore leading off and being hit by a pitch. Parker Clark followed and was also plunked to put runners at first and second. With one out, Seth Brasher laced an RBI single past first base which scored Moore.

With two runners on, Miguel Vega beat out an infield single to the pitcher, which loaded the bases for Jenkins. Jenkins rifled a single past second base, which was hit so hard that only Clark was able to score and tie the game, 2-2.

With now two outs and the bases loaded, Ryan Cox put Brook Hill in front with an RBI single that scored Brasher.

The Guard went back to work in the fifth inning with Fletcher reaching on an error and making his way to third base on a single from Chase Moore. With two runners on and nobody out, Clark smacked a two-run double to left field, which give Brook Hill a 5-2 lead.

Brook Hill added four more insurance runs in the seventh, thanks to an RBI single from Tyler Overbeek, a bases-loaded walk from Vega and two-run double by Jenkins.
