Guard rally falls short in 5-4 loss at Frisco Legacy Christian

FRISCO — Brook Hill baseball fell short in its bid to sweep a home-and-home series with Frisco Legacy Christian. Earlier in the week, the Guard pummeled Legacy Christian 17-6, but lost the rematch 5-4 on Thursday.

The Guard had the tying run 90 feet away in the top of the seventh inning, but Reid Hill was left stranded at third base.

The loss is the Guards (1-1) first in TAPPS District 2-4A and dropped Brook Hill’s overall record to 7-5.

Hill took the loss on the mound, allowing five earned runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts. Logan Langford and Josh Jenkins combined for an 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Ryan Cox finished 3 for 4 with a run scored and Josh Jenkins was 2 for 2 with two singles.

The Guard began game on the front foot, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. McCray Fletcher was hit by a pitch, went to second on a sacrifice bunt from Chase Moore and eventually scored on an error.

Legacy Christian struck for two runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead and added three more in the fifth inning to make it 5-1.

Brook Hill answered back with three runs in the top of the sixth.

Moore walked to leadoff and went to second on a single from Parker Clark. Cox then beat out a bunt single to load the bases for Seth Brasher, who drove a ball deep enough to score Moore on a sac fly and allow Clark and Cox to move up to second and third.

Clark scored on a fielder’s choice from Campbell Fletcher to make it 5-3 and Cox came home on an error to slice the deficit even further, 5-4.

In the seventh, Hill walked and went to second on a sac bunt from McCray Fletcher. A single by Moore and walk to Clark loaded the bases with one out. Brook Hill’s scoring opportunity was then halted on a strikeout and groundout to end the game.

The Guard will next face Dallas Shelton at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in Dallas.
