Guard remain undefeated, take care of Katy Pope

Brook Hill unleashed its offense, defense and special teams Friday against Katy Pope and the result was a dominating 40-7 victory at Herrington Stadium to remain undefeated.

Guard junior quarterback Hood Taylor completed 11 of 17 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns while junior Jermiah McGowen rushed 18 times for 135  yards and a score. Senior Alec Kitt caught a team-high four passes for 96 yards and a touchdown. Senior Parker Galbraith also caught a touchdown as part of his two receptions for 72 yards.

Brook Hill’s defense had 21 tackles for loss and forced two turnovers with senior Chidiebere Nechi intercepting a pass and freshman Seth Moss recovered a fumble forced by junior Sam Nechi. The Guard did not allow a single point against them until the fourth quarter when it was 40-0.

Senior Jordan Wyatt was perfect on his kicks, connecting on a 24-yard field goal and three extra points.

Brook Hill (4-0) got on the board in the first quarter on Wyatt’s kick and made it 10-0 minutes later when Taylor and Kitt connected for a 20-yard TD strike.

McGowen’s 11-yard touchdown run followed by a two-point run from McGowen gave Brook Hill an 18-0 lead in the second quarter.

Katy Pope’s attempt to answer was stopped by Chidiebere Nechi’s interception.

The Guard marched to 22 more unanswered points in the third quarter. Taylor found Galbraith for a 54-yard touchdown and ran in a two-point conversion, senior Jordon McGowen scored on a 2-yard run after Moss’ fumble recovery and Sam Nechi bulldozed in from a yard out. Wyatt’s PATs on McGowen and Nechi’s to build an insurmountable 40-0 advantage.

The Guard will next open up TAPPS Division II District 2 play on the road Friday at Tyler All Saints. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Mewbourne Stadium.
