6th grade students and their parents were busy this week learning how to Moodle! The launch of our Moodle Pilot brings a period of change for our 6th grade students. To ensure we are giving our students the help they need, they will be visiting the Computer Lab each day for 45 minutes over the next several weeks to complete 13 different Moodle lessons. These lessons were created by their teachers as classroom assignments, to be completed in the lab using Moodle’s unique online learning environment.
During our first week of training, 6th grade students learned how to use forums to participate in class discussions, how to find and utilize online study tools like interactive flash cards & online practice quizzes, and how to turn in their assignments through Moodle. Our 6th grade Spanish students had the added fun of using Moodle to record and listen to their own vocabulary words this week. Mrs. Utz is very excited about the chance to listen to her students’ voice recordings. What a great way to enhance learning!
Implementing Moodle means changes for our parents too! This week we held the first of three “Moodle for Parents” workshops. Our parents are essential to the success of our students, and what better way to show our kids that we never stop learning than to see mom or dad learning Moodle too! Parents were able to experience Moodle as a student by completing activities & assignments using Moodle, then experience Moodle as a parent by viewing assignment details and class resources. If you are a 6th grade parent and you missed our session this week, we have 2 more opportunities for you! The next training sessions will be:
- Tuesday, January 20, 6:30-8:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, January 21, 8:30-10:00 a.m.
