Lady Guard clinch playoff spot with win at Tyler Grace

TYLER — It was all on the line for the Brook Hill varsity volleyball team and the Lady Guard did not falter.

Led by senior Charlie Niles and junior Megan Priddy, the Lady Guard defeated Tyler Grace in four games to finish with an 8-8 record in TAPPS District 2-4A and secure the final playoff spot from the district.

Niles finished with 11 kills while Priddy added 9 kills to win 25-17, 25-20, 20-25, 25-17.

Brook Hill will now play Austin Hyde Park on Thursday in the opening round at Hyde Park at a time still to be determined.

“I am extremely proud of how well these girls played as a team,” Brook Hill coach Candise Wise said. “They fought for every point and never gave up. Their hard work this season has paid off.”

Junior Brianna Young paced the Lady Guard with 38 digs while junior Mia Martinico led with 15 assists. As a team, Brook Hill totaled 14 service aces, led by junior Kay Kay Smith, who had 5 of them. Senior Emily Webb also delivered two stuff blocks.
