HOUSTON — The Lady Guard snapped a two-game skid with a runaway win Saturday afternoon, defeating Houston St. Thomas Episcopal School, 55-25.

Brook Hill broke the game open by outscoring St. Thomas Episcopal 20-7 in the second period after the teams were tied 8-8 after the first.

The Lady Guard stopped any comeback thoughts from the home team by staying in control in the third period, outscoring St. Thomas Episcopal 19-5 to increase its lead to 47-22.

Mia Martinico led the Lady Guard with 15 points with Lauren Eden totaling 13 points. Charlie Niles had 8 points and a team-high 8 rebounds.

On Tuesday, Brook Hill was upended at home by state-ranked LaPoynor 60-24 and were stopped Friday at Houston Fort Bend Christian Academy, 48-38.

In the loss to LaPoynor, Martinico and Eden again led the way, combining for 14 of Brook Hill’s 24 points as the Lady Guard struggled against LaPoynor’s pressure defense, which forced 19 BH turnovers.

Against Fort Bend Christian, the Lady Guard attempted to overcome a slow start by unleashing a furious comeback in the final period, outscoring Fort Bend 15-6 in an eventual loss.

The one win and two losses gives Brook Hill a 5-4 record as the Lady Guard get set to compete at the Franklin ISD Tournament starting Thursday at Franklin High School.
