Lady Guard overwhelm Kilgore JV to win consolation bracket at UG Tournament

GLADEWATER — Senior guard Jordan Phillips and junior AD Kuechle each finished with nine points as Brook Hill completed the Union Grove tournament with a 38-12 win over Kilgore JV on Saturday in the Consolation Bracket Final.

The win gave the Lady Guard a 2-1 weekend and raised Brook Hill’s overall record to 3-2.

Brook Hill never gave Kilgore JV a chance, building an 18-2 lead at the end of the first period. The Lady Guard’s stifling defense did not allow Kilgore to score more than four points in any of the game’s four periods. Meanwhile, Brook Hill dialed back a little on its offense, scoring just 20 points the rest of the way.

The Guard forced seven steals with sophomore guard Gracie Helmers leading the way with three takeaways. Phillips and Kuechle combined to control the glass with Phillips finishing with 6 rebounds and Kuechle grabbed five boards.

Brook Hill shot just 26 percent, but made it up for it by going 10 of 18 from free-throw line. Junior Lauren Eden paced the Lady Guard, scoring four of her final eight points from the charity stripe.

Brook Hill will next face Price Carlisle at 1 p.m. Monday at Carlisle HS.
