Lady Guard soccer enjoy a weekend sweep

The Brook Hill Lady Guard enjoyed a great weekend with a sweep of their three games in the Grace Cougar Round Robin at Clyde-Perkins Stadium in Tyler.

Brook Hill (3-0) won 2-1 Friday over Houston Northland Christian, and took wins on Saturday over Houston Second Baptist, 2-0, and Houston Lutheran South, 2-1.

Katherine Stair was heavily involved in all three wins. combining to score five goals and adding an assist.

Stair got the Lady Guard off and running Friday when she out-muscled a defender to steal the ball at the top of the box, turned and fired it past the Northland Christian keeper for a 1-0 lead.

Northland Christian equalized in the 56th minute before Stair scored again to put the Lady Guard back in front for good. This time Stair did from the penalty spot.

The rest was up to the Lady Guard defense and goalkeeper Morgan Carpenter, who finished with eight saves to help Brook Hill secure a 2-1 season-opening win.

Early Saturday morning Brook Hill was back in action, this time against Second Baptist. Stair was responsible for the first goal, playing a perfect through ball into Chidi Nechi, who did the rest for a 1-0 lead.

Nechi repaid Stair back a little later. She received a pass in the box, located Stair running in from midfield and played a perfect ball back to Stair, who one-timed her shot into the back of the net. Carpenter delivered a clean sheet with three saves in the 2-0 win.

The third game was similar to the first with Stair putting Brook Hill into the lead, the opposition equalizing and Stair getting the game-winner.
