Martinico scores 21 to lead Lady Guard to victory

TYLER — The T.K. Bishop Gorman Lady Crusaders did not have an answer for Brook Hill’s Mia Martinico, who led all players with 21 points in a 41-25 victory Friday at Haddad Gymnasium.

The game was never close as Brook Hill outscored the home side 13-0 in the first quarter and led 20-11 at halftime. The Lady Guard defense produced 24 steals with Martinico accounting for six of them. Kay Kay Smith had five steals and AD Kuechle finished with four steals.

The victory moved Brook Hill (11-12) to within a game of .500 overall and in TAPPS District 2-4A as the Lady Guard are now 2-3.

Brook Hill will look for two in a row Tuesday at home to Frisco Legacy Christian. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Herrington Gym.
