Lady Guard Volleyball Teams Playing Well in Tournaments

Brook Hill Lady Guard Has Great Weekend

The 7th grade and 8th grade Junior High teams traveled to Edgewood to play in the Annual Edgewood Junior High Tournament. Both Lady Guard Junior high teams won 1st place in their respective grade divisions.  Standouts for the 7th grade team included Emily Livesay, Natalie Travis and Katherine Mondrik.  Coach Knight said the entire 7th grade team played very well for our first tournament. Coach Roquemore’s 8th grade team was led by Madeline Reed and Anna Kitt.

Meanwhile the Lady Guard team played in the Winona JV Tournament. After a slow start in Pool Play on Thursday the team put it all together on Saturday in bracket play to take 3rd place in the Tournament.

While the Lady Guard 7th and 8th grade teams were in Edgewood and the JV IN Winona, the Varsity team participating in the 10th Annual Brownsboro Bearette Booster Tournament. After losing in a tie breaker against Rains the Lady Guard took wins against Grapeland and Bullard to secure a spot in the Championship Bracket on Saturday.  The Lady Guard came out strong against Kaufman winning the first set 25-21.  The Lady Guard came out strong in the 2nd set and were leading 18-12 when Kaufman put together two strong runs and eventually won the 2nd set and the tie-breaker 3rd set.  The Lady Guard next took on the host Brownsboro Lady bears. Brownsboro came out strong and took the 1st set 21-25.  The Guard started putting it together in the 2nd set and took the set 25-16.  In the tie-breaker 3rd set the lead changed sides numerous times.  The Lady Guard fell behind 19-22.  After a timeout, the Lady Guard reeled off 6 straight points to take the win 25-22.  The win put the Lady Guard in the Consolation finals against Mineola in the Championship bracket.  Coach Clements said “we just never could get untracked” as they fell behind quicky in the 1st set.  The Lady Guard fought their way back but lost the set 22-25.  The 2nd set was a repeat of the 1st set as the Lady Guard lost the second set.

The Lady Guard has made it into the Championship bracket in each of the tournaments they have entered.  Coach Clements said the Lady Guard has played a tougher schedule this year and I believe it will pay off during District play.  We are competing against some very good teams and that will only make us better.

In the Kaufman match Senior Samantha Anderson led the Lady Guard with 8 kills, 3 blocks and 2 aces. Junior Charlie Niles had 2 kills, 5 assists, 1 block and 2 digs.  Junior defensive players Maddie Parker and Morgan Moss added 10 digs.  Against Brownsboro, Anderson had 16 kills, 3 blocks, 3 digs, and 2 aces.  Niles added 3 kills, 8 assists 2 digs, and 2 aces. Senior Lindsay Wheeler also added 7 assists.  In the Consolation finals, Niles led the team with 4 assists, 3 kills, 3 digs and 2 aces.  Anderson had 6 kills and 2 blocks.

The Lady Guard are now 11-7 on the season and will travel to Dallas Christian on Thursday, August 11th for a District match with a start time of 5:30 for the JV and 6:30 for the Varsity.
