Brook Hill varsity volleyball showed its resolve and delivered a big road win Thursday over Tyler Bishop Gorman.

The Lady Guard won the match in five games, 27-25, 25-18, 10-25, 24-26, 15-3.

Guard head coach Ricky Clements said because of injuries, Brook Hill asked senior Morgan Moss to come off the bench in the critical fifth game and Moss delivered.

“It was her first appearance in the match and she made four perfect passes that led to kills for Katherine Stair, Emily Webb and Lexi Crenshaw,” Clements said.

Moss finished with the highest percentage of passing success on the team for her efforts in Game 5.

Brook Hill dominated the fifth game and Clements said it was an all-around dominant effort when the Lady Guard needed it most.

“Emily Webb and Lexi Crenshaw had crucial blocks in the deciding set and our libero, Maddie Parker, delivered key digs. Charlie Niles took care of the assists and threw in a couple aces to seal the match.”

Charlie Niles led the Lady Guard overall. The senior setter/outside hitter finished with 14 kills, 18 assists and 25 digs.

Senior outside hitter Katherine Stair and senior middle Lexi Crenshaw each finished with 7 kills and junior outside hitter Megan Priddy totaled 6 kills. Sophomore Maddie Parker finished with 33 digs and senior Lauren Eden added 11 assists.

Brook Hill began the match by winning a marathon first game, 27-25. The Lady Guard used the momentum to power past Gorman in the second game, 25-18, and looked to be ready to sweep Gorman.

The home side rallied to win the next two games and set up the all-important fifth game.

Brook Hill never was threatened, running away from Gorman to win the match.

The Lady Guard are now 8-5 overall and 3-2 in TAPPS District 2-4A.

Brook Hill now enjoys an extended break before returning to action on Tuesday, September 22 at home against Tyler Grace Community.
