BROWNSBORO — The Lady Guard varsity volleyball team continued their strong pre-district play Saturday by winning the consolation bracket at the Brownsboro Tournament.

BH lost its first match in the morning to host Brownsboro which dropped the Lady Guard into the consolation half of the bracket. Undeterred, the Brook Hill varsity rebounded to defeat Athens and Troup and win the consolation bracket.

The morning began with an opening-round match against the hosts. The Lady Guard started slow, dropping the first game 25-16. Brook Hill showed its resolve by rebounding in Game 2 to square the match after winning, 25-22. This forced a third deciding game played to 15, Brownsboro won, 15-9.

Brook Hill’s offense shined in its Game 2 with 14 kills as a team and only one error. In the Game 1 and Game 3 losses, the Lady Guard combined for only seven kills. Lauren Eden provided three aces and Brianna Young had nine digs to help the Lady Guard cause in the loss.

The Lady Guard looked to rebound in the consolation bracket against Troup. BH took control early and never looked back, winning 25-21, 25-16.

Brook Hill received four kills apiece from Katherine Modrick and Maddie Anthony while Brianna Young delivered four aces and Megan Priddy provided two solo blocks.

In the consolation championship, Brook Hill faced Athens.

The Lady Guard were not going to be denied a chance to finish off the their weekend on a high note, sweeping the match in two games, 25-20, 25-19.

The team combined for 15 kills and 12 aces in the match with Morgan Carpenter delivering a match-high four kills and Eden dominating from the service line with four aces. Priddy also had two stuff blocks.

The Lady Guard are now 17-5 on the season.
