Poor shooting dooms Lady Guard at Elysian Fields, 71-40

ELYSIAN FIELDS — Brook Hill suffered its worst shooting first quarter of the season on Friday, which enabled Elysian Fields to build a 12-2 lead as the Lady Guard were defeated 71-40 in a non-district game.

The Lady Guard attempted just six shots in the opening period, but found their offensive rhythm in the second half to outscore Elysian Fields 14-12 and trail 24-16 at halftime.

Senior Charlie Niles battled through flu-like symptoms to lead the Lady Guard with 12 points and six rebounds while juniors Mia Martinico and AD Kuechle added nine points apiece.

Brook Hill began the second half with a purpose, using a full-court trap to create turnovers and help the Lady Guard slowly chip away at their deficit, but Elysian Fields rediscovered its scoring form late in the period to finish with a flurry and leave Brook Hill now trailing 45-29 entering the fourth.

The home side closed the game out in the fourth period.

The loss dropped Brook Hill to 8-10. The TAPPS 2-4A district slate now awaits. The Lady Guard open league play on January 5 at Dallas Christian.
