From the desk of Glenn Ballard, Director of Fine Arts:
On Friday and Saturday, December 13 and 14, the Middle School drama and choir students will present their seventh Annual One Act Play and Musical. This year the featured One Act Play, directed by Glenn Ballard, is titled “A Christmas Chaos” by Michael Wehrli. When a professional theatre company goes to the wrong town for their performance of “A Christmas Carol,” it’s up to a rag-tag group of local theatre students to throw together their own version of the Dickens’ classic.
The featured musical is called “The Night Shift Before Christmas” by Steve Moore, Rob Howard and David Guthrie. The musical is directed by choral teacher Mrs. Patti Eden. It’s a late-night crowd … the cook, the waitress, travelers for the census, the innkeeper, trouble-making shepherds, camel drivers. The big news about a little baby travels fast around Bethlehem–even in the wee hours of the evening at the all-night Falafel House, Bethlehem’s 24-hour roadside cafe. It’s Bethlehem’s only 24-hour restaurant, and owners Flo and Mo are proud of the fact that they’ve never closed their door (except for the Sabbath, of course) . . . until, perhaps, tonight! As the information stacks up, they’ve got to make the big decision to go see for themselves. A super-fun story, super-cool music that even the older kids love, but a solid gospel-based celebration of the birth of the Savior.
A scrumptious baked potato buffet and dessert will be served. During dinner, patrons will be treated to some wonderful Christmas music. Doors open at 6:00 and the potato bar will be open until 6:45. The first play will begin at 7:00 pm with the musical following at 8:00 pm. Reserved seats are available from $8 to $12 by calling Donna Dean at 903-894-5000.
SOFA’s ever popular Christmas baskets and original artwork by Brook Hill artists will be available to help fill your Christmas shopping needs! Don’t miss this fun evening showcasing middle school talent!
