Rain, lightning delays stop Brook Hill in 16-14 loss at Frisco Legacy Christian

FRISCO — Brook Hill rallied from 14-0 down, but a safety was ultimately the Guard’s undoing on a blustery, rainy Friday night.

Senior quarterback McCray Fletcher finished 8 of 19 for 121 yards and a touchdown while the Guard finished with 262 yards total in the loss.

Brook Hill’s normal air-it-out attack was forced to keep it on the ground in the conditions with the Guard rushing 30 times for 141 yards and a touchdown.

Fletcher led the team with 49 on 6 attempts while freshman Carson Ezell totaled 39 on 10 rushes and junior Jordon McGowen finished with 31 on 8 attempts.

Junior Jeremiah McGowen rushed 3 times for 4 yards, one of those a 1-yard touchdown.

Junior Parker Galbraith led Brook Hill’s receivers, finishing with 3 catches for 39 yards and a touchdown. Senior Seth Brasher had 2 catches for 31 yards and Jordon McGowen totaled 2 catches for 20 yards.

The loss dropped Brook Hill to 1-4 in TAPPS Division II District 2.

The game began early as the teams tried to get it finished before the impending bad weather descended on the Dallas Fort-Worth Area.

Legacy Christian jumped out ahead 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The Guard fired back on the first play of the second quarter. Fletcher connected with Galbraith for a 28-yard touchdown. Caleb Chadwell’s extra-point was true to make it 14-7.

The home side made it 16-7 when Brook Hill was called for intentional grounding in its end zone for a safety.

Undeterred, the Guard marched back down and put another touchdown on the board. This time it was the ground game with Jeremiah McGowen applying the finish on a 1-yard blast. Chadwell’s kick made it 16-14 with 8 minutes remaining.

As the second quarter continued, the weather worsened, before finally the teams were brought off the field for a lengthy lightening delay. More followed.

When the teams finally were able to resume play, neither could re-establish their rhythm in a scoreless second half and the game ended, 16-14.

Brook Hill faces Carrollton Prince of Peace on Friday for its final home game of the season. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Herrington Stadium.
