Remembering Vietnam – Veteran Wall Coming to American Freedom Museum

Raveling Vietnam Veteran's Wall

From the desk of Jan Hommel, American Freedom Museum Director:

On Saturday, April 25th, The American Veteran Traveling Tribute and the American Freedom Museum will be hosting the Traveling Vietnam Veteran’s Wall on the campus of The Brook Hill School. This month marks the 40th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, and one of our Brook Hill parents, Don Allen, has gathered a group of veterans, along with several East Texas service organizations, and put together a family friendly celebration to commemorate this milestone. Don is a U.S. Army veteran and owner of the AVTT Vietnam Wall, which is a traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. The event will unfold over 2 days with April 24th set aside specifically for schools, allowing students the opportunity to see the Wall and tour the Museum. Saturday, April 25th is set aside as a family day, starting at 9:00 a.m. when the Museum and Wall will open for visitors. Planned activities include a performance by the East Texas Men in Harmony at 11:00 a.m. followed by a noon recognition ceremony, The Brook Hill School choir, group photo and a complimentary lunch.  The keynote speaker will be Dave Berry, an award-winning journalist who served in the U.S, Army from 1970 – 1972, capturing photos of people, places and events of the war. There will also be military vehicles on display, a prisoner of war/missing in action display and activities for the kids.

We are hoping that you can join us on Saturday, April 25th. It will be a great event where you can bring your children and grandchildren to meet some of the men and women who served our country so sacrificially and heroically as they fought for the many freedoms we enjoy today. It is an honor for the Museum and the school to get to be a part of recognizing the sacrifices of all who served during the Vietnam War. You won’t want to miss it!

**Everyone who wears a Brook Hill t-shirt to the event will receive free admission to the American Freedom Museum that day. All Brook Hill students are admitted for free to the Museum.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the event or activities that will be going on that day. Hope to see you on Saturday, April 25th!
