Sam St. Amant Gets First Chair at TMEA All-State Choir Auditions

Sam St. Amant competed at the Area level of the TMEA All-State Choir auditions this past Saturday at Stephen F. Austin University and earned first chair in his section! This will be Sam’s third year to earn a spot in the All-State Choir, a rare honor amongst fellow competitors.

Each fall, over 70,000 Texas high school age students begin the All-State audition process. Around 1,800 are selected to rehearse and perform during the annual TMEA Clinic/Convention in one of 18 Texas All-State ensembles, including four choirs: Mixed Choir, Treble Choir, Tenor-Bass Choir, Small School Mixed Choir. Over 26 schools participated in this past weekend’s Area contest. The mix of schools that participated included 2A to 4A public schools and a couple of private schools from all around the state of Texas.

In February, Sam will travel to San Antonio for the convention where he will rehearse with the All State Choir, conducted by Dr. Jeffrey Redding of The University of Central Florida. Texas Music Educator’s Association is the largest state music educator’s association in the nation, with over 12,000 people attending the convention. Sam will perform a concert with the choir on the last day of the convention.

Sam, we are so proud of YOU AND your dedication to your craft. WE look forward to hearing how the convention and performance goes, good luck!
