Second graders at Brook Hill have created a personal Writer’s Notebook. Student were assigned with taking home a composition notebook and decorating the cover with pictures, stickers, words, quotes, or photographs that are special to them. These items will help spark writing ideas when they begin writing original stories. Students shared their notebooks with the class and explained why they chose the things on their cover. Students also completed a Gallery Walk; students displayed their notebook on their desk then the class had several minutes to walk around and look at each notebook. Second graders are beginning to learn the writing process and fill their notebooks with stories of their life and imagination. Former second grade students have been known to keep their writer’s notebook and bring it back to show the teachers their memories of second grade writing.
