Shooting drought dooms Guard in narrow loss at All Saints

TYLER — Brook Hill controlled the first half of its game Friday against All Saints, but went cold from the floor in the second half of an eventual 48-39 loss at Brookshire Gym.

The Guard led 12-11 at the end of the first quarter and increased their advantage to three points, 22-19, at halftime.

Brook Hill scored only five points in the third quarter to relinquish its lead. The Guard offense rebounded in the final frame, but it wasn’t enough to rally back.

“We played some of our best basketball in spurts, but unfortunately ran out of gas,” Guard coach Jacob Agnew said. “In the third quarter the ball just wouldn’t go in the basket. We probably had four 3’s go in and out and few others that hit everything but the net.

The Guard dropped to 13-13 overall and 2-5 in TAPPS District 2-4A.

Brook Hill has one more game in the regular season Tuesday before the district tournament. The matchup is against Tyler Grace Community at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on Senior Night at Herrington Gym.

Coach Agnew said teams that underestimate Brook Hill because of the Guard’s record do so at their own peril.

“The way we played tonight, I don’t think anyone is going to want to face us in the district tournament,” Agnew said. “We’re ready.”
