US History Visits American Freedom Museum

The upper school U.S. History classes at Brook Hill  have been studying the Spanish-American War through World War I.  To better understand their period of study, they visited the American Freedom Museum on Tuesday morning.  Students learned more about Teddy Roosevelt’s bugler who took a Spanish bullet to his buttocks, the horrific conditions of trench warfare along the Western Front, the “Eyes for the Navy” program where civilians loaned their binoculars to the Navy for use during WWI, and the heroics of Sergeant Alvin York who gave all credit to God for his abilities and protection during the war. Better yet, our students learned these things from the museum’s founder, Stephen Dement (who is also their teacher and founder of The Brook Hill School).
