Miguel Vega’s grand slam home run in the fifth inning helped power Brook Hill into first place in District 2-4A.

Vega finished with 6 RBIs as the Guard routed Tyler Grace Community 14-5 on Friday.

Brook Hill raised its record to 13-5 overall and 7-1 in TAPPS District 2-4A. That puts the Guard alone atop the standings with six league games remaining.

Two of those are against second-place Dallas Christian with the first coming Tuesday at 5 p.m. in Garland.

Ryan Cox received double-digit run support as he picked up the victory. Cox allowed five runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Reid Hill and Logan Langford combined for 2 and 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Seth Brasher doubled, tripled and scored three runs with Parker Clark going 3 for 4 with a double and three runs scored.

Brook Hill scored three runs in the bottom of the first with a two-out rally. Seth Brasher’s RBI double drove in McCray Fletcher for a 1-0 lead. Vega followed with a single to score Mason Smith, who had singled. Brasher later came home for the 3-0 lead.

The Guard later pushed their lead to 7-1 in the fourth inning on an RBI triple by Brasher to score Parker Clark and an RBI single to Jenkins that brought Brasher home.

Grace Community sliced Brook Hill’s lead to 7-5 in the top of the fifth.

Brook Hill’s went back to work in the bottom of the fifth.  An RBI triple from Chase Moore scored Fletcher to make it 9-5. With a runner at third and no outs, Grace decided to intentionally walk the next two batters to load the bases and make a force at any base.

It worked for a force out, but then Vega stepped to the dish with the bases still loaded and launched the first pitch he saw for a grand slam homer. That made it 13-5 with Brook Hill tacking another run in the sixth on an RBI double from Mason Smith.
