On Tuesday, Kansas State and University of Kansas recruiters came to campus to mingle with our students, hand out brochures and paraphernalia, and get them interested in their perspective schools and the majors that they offer.

To kick off the Lower School book far this week, many of our students and teachers dressed up as pirates and paraded around the perimeter of the gym. They each got a bookmark to celebrate and learn that books are a treasure.

This semester, we have debuted our second grade LEGO club. The club meets in the library after school, and one of the main things these students are learning is how to construct simple machines using gears. Six Pre-K and Kindergarten classes welcomed their parents as they celebrated Thanksgiving a week early. Although most of the feasts included chicken nuggets and not turkey and dressing, the students were prepared to share with their guests what they have been learning about Pilgrims and Indians through songs and drawings.

Our Scholastic “Bookaneer” Book Fair where books are the real treasure takes place all next week from 8-4 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, is dress like a pirate day. We will have a pirate parade in the gym at 8:30 in the morning.

Mrs. Wallace’s 8th graders performed a science experiment by conducting a chemical reaction lab to review the signs of a chemical change. Students were able to see color change, feel temperature change and observe a gas being produced as the bag inflated. Students also identified other physical and chemical properties in the lab.

Students were able to go to the American Freedom Museum on Election Day and cast their vote for the next President of the United States.
