Last weekend our boarding community took a trip to Six Flags Over Texas for their Christmas season called “Holiday In The Park”. Students went for rides on roller coasters, swings, and other thrills! The park was decorated for Christmas with lights, trees, garlands, and other items of Christmas cheer. It was a fun way to […]
This Sunday we celebrated Christmas with our boarding community after church. The party included food, a hot chocolate bar, and competition! Students teamed up to build the best (structure & style) gingerbread house in less than 20 minutes. Competition was fierce, but when the dust settled, a group of young men (Ben, Choi, Ethan, Young […]
This past weekend the boarding community went to Dallas for a shopping spree. One group of students went to the Galleria then to an Asian Market for food, while another group traveled to North Park. Students had a blast shopping and stocking up on their favorite cuisines.
Thursday night our boarding community along with some Brook Hill Faculty gathered for a family style Thanksgiving meal! Boarding parents helped to decorate and bake delicious goodies, while the kitchen staff labored to make turkey, dressing, stuffing, yams, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and other Thanksgiving dishes. Our students were able to enjoy time together, […]
Ever wonder if your child is getting a nutritious breakfast each day? In the photo below you can see a standard Brook Hill breakfast that is served each morning in the Commons. Besides the eggs, sausage pancake wrap, hash browns, bagel, cereal, fruit, milk and juice pictures here your child is also served omelets, pancakes, […]
The Boarding community threw a block party on Halloween! We baked all kinds of treats, drank apple cider, played lawn games, carved and painted pumpkins, and took goofy photos! Enjoy some laughs and see what a great time we had!
This morning we heard from our international students about customs, culture, and life in their native countries. Students also shared about life as a boarding student and what it is like to live in another country. Countries represented by our students were: Thailand, China, Vietnam, Liberia, South Korea, Nigeria and Saudi Arabia. What a great […]
The first Sunday of each month is Shalom at the Rhoads, when students can relax, have some fun and enjoy a small family environment. Chris Yang and Ethan Kim enjoy s’mores while other students play games and hang out with the family.
Instead of the typical Saturday morning brunch, we inaugurated the opening of our new girls’ boarding house with a pancake breakfast! We ate pancakes, sausage, and fruit, hung out, and enjoyed one another’s company in freshly furnished living space. Mr. And Mrs. Albea made over 180 pancakes for our 65 students.
Tuesday night Mr. Fletcher (Headmaster) and his family invited our boarding community into their home for an Ice Cream Social. Our students played games, socialized, and, of course, created and consumed their own ice cream creation. With activities, 3 flavors of ice cream, 7 toppings, and 65 students we had the recipe for an enjoyable evening.
Walls, windows and floors come alive when just the right furnishings, decor and personal loving touch are added. Kudos to Carrie Langemeier who has done a beautiful job of transforming the girls’ house into a home. Somebody call Southern Living. They’re going to want this place in their next issue.
From the desk of Shawn Rhoads, Director of Residential Life and International Programs: Many of you have grown up right here in east Texas and have enjoyed the southern hospitality that we all live and breathe. Other folks may live their entire lives in another land and steep within that culture all their days. But […]
